Updates

Sorry I haven't written anything too interesting lately.  We just haven't really been doing much!  Eric was on call last Wednesday, last weekend, last night (when he had to leave at 12:30 am and still has to be there until about 9:00 tonight), will be on call this weekend, and the weekend after that.  Then he has to take his Step 3 exam the week after that.  Then he is going to Oklahoma the week after that because his parents will be in Tulsa, and he will get to see his friends and hang out with my family a little bit.  I won't be able to go because I won't have enough time off from work built up yet.  I'm so sad I won't be able to go because I really miss all of my Oklahomies!

I am joining Junior League Phoenix! I went to an information session last weekend and it sounds awesome.  i was worried at first about not being able to make all of the requirements of provisional year but they ensured me there are so many ways to get hours that it won't be a problem. i already met some quality girls at the info session so I am really excited to get the ball rolling!

Eric and I switched to Scottsdale Bible church. We tried this church out when wee first moved here but we were really hesitant because IT. IS. HUGE.  We didn't feel at first that a church this big would be best for us.  We had been going to another church when we could, but with our work schedules usually clashing, it was only about once a month where we would both have Sunday off to go to church.  Now that I don't have to work weekends except for being on call every once and a while, we can go to church together more often (except for this crazy stretch we are on now). We decided on trying this church out again because of the huge amount of Sunday school groups they have.  We decided to start going to a group called First 5.  It is a group for couples in their first 5 years of marriage.  We walked in for the first time and saw Eric's co-intern, Mark, and his wife Tessa! We knew they went to this church but didn't know they went to this class.  Then we saw one of the General Surgery attendings at Mayo, Dr. Gray, who is one of the leaders of the group.  So, we felt like we fit in right away because of the familiar faces! Last week the girls of the group got together and we filled bags to give to homeless people we see.  We put lots of little things is them to make them feel better about themselves, like hygiene products. We also included socks, combs, water, Gatorade, and lots of snacks.  Hopefully when we hand them out they will feel like someone cares about them.

The Thunder are here tonight playing the Suns. We aren't going because Eric has no idea when he will be able to leave work. I'm so bummed. I miss my team! And I miss my husband! We are going to need some major time together after this crazy month coming up.

Hope you all are having a great week!

The 'C' Word: help find a cure!

First off...How cool is it that I am blogging before work?!  I start PACU today and don't have to be there until 9:30...and the rest of the time, including my regular shift will be 11:00-9:30! I am so excited to be able to get things done before work.  I will actually be able to get a work out in on days I work now. When I was working 7-7 (but never really leaving until around 8), there was never time to go to the gym. I am so excited about this!

Now for the whole point of this post: my sister is raising money for cancer research! She is working with an organization called Team in Training, and she is training for a half marathon! Please please please check out her website and read her story. There is no one that has not at least known one person who has been struck with cancer; it affects us all. Thanks for reading!

Megan

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Today is my mom's birthday!!!! I so wish i was home so I could celebrate with her and the rest of the family. Especially because I would suggest going to P.F. Changs and having an excuse to order that huge slice of chocolate cake they have. It probably contains 5748975489372894758346 calories and 574867329867 grams of fat. but it is the best thing ever. It's even better if you order it to go, put it in the fridge over night and eat it the next day. Yummmm!!!

My mom is pretty cool.  Eric tells me all the time she is way cooler than I am.

I hope you have a fabulous birthday, Mom! I love you and miss you so much!

Love,
Megan

New Job Update!

I.LOVE.MY.NEW.JOB.

Yay! Monday and Tuesday were my first two days on orientation at Mayo.  The two weeks before that were just computer training and all that good stuff.  So the rest of this week and all of next week I will be orienting with a preceptor in Pre-Op. Then I will have 4 weeks training in PACU before I am on my own. My job is in PACU but they cross train us in Pre-Op for when we are on call. My preceptor is so nice along with everyone I have met there. She has gone out of here way to introduce me to anesthesiologists, CRNA's, and OR nurses since I will be working closely with them. It is such a great work environment. Everyone is happy, everyone gets along with everyone, and I just feel good being there. What a blessing to enjoy going to work. I know I will have bad days here and there because that is unavoidable anywhere, but I feel so thankful to have this job opportunity!

On another note, has anyone not seen this video? Funniest thing ever!

Hope you are are having a wonderful Wednesday!

First Anniversary!

I can't believe it has been one year since Eric and I got married! It feels like yesterday. I love love love remembering our wedding. It was so perfect. The most perfect day ever. I hope I never ever forget how perfect that day was. I love looking at the pictures and seeing how happy we were that day.

It has been quite the year for us...difficult sometimes with being away from home, but aside from that it has been amazing. I love being married. It's still so fun for us. Before we got married we hardly ever saw each other more that 2 days in a row. The first time we saw each other more than 3 days in a row wasn't until our honeymoon! We didn't know if it would be difficult getting used to being around each other more in our every day lives, or if it would just be super fun. It was super fun, and it still is! We never get sick of each other (this is probably related to the fact that he works extremely long hours and has to study when he's home, lol). We just love hanging out together! I know we are still pretty new at it, but if this is how our marriage keeps going we are set for life! :)

We are so blessed God brought us together, and I am so thankful.

Now to the fun stuff: anniversary celebration!  On Saturday, our actual anniversary, we did this. It was awesome!!! They had a costume contest and since it was our anniversary, we decided our costumes would be tacky bride & groom.  Annnnnnnnddddddd...........WE WON BEST COSTUME!!!  Then we had to run all around downtown Phoenix in our costumes looking ridiculous. Some of the comments I heard:

"Mom, look!!!! A bride!!!"
"Whoaaaaaa look at her."
"What are you guys doing?"
"Wow. We must be missing something good."
"Congratulations you guys! Are you coming straight from the wedding?" (you will realize how hilarious this one is when you see my costume. Omg."

We also got lots of honks and screams. Good times.

Check out these pics...we both had to be in each picture at the clues for the points to count!

Yes, I ran around downtown Phoenix like this.
My groom before we got started
Here we go!
Getting ready
First clue! This is where we had to go to get the rest of the clues.
First spot,  Check! Sweep's Sweets
Comics!
Clue 3: our "Rocky" impressions gave us extra points!
At the improv clue. Improv is definitely not our strong suit!
At the mural of the cats.
Revolver Records. Points added for acting like rock and roll stars!
Tammie Coe Cakes! This is the clue I figured out all by myself!!
Royal Crowne Bar!
DONE!
Drinking a much needed beer after sprinting around Phoenix for almost 3 hours!

After this we went home, got cleaned up and exchanged gifts!
We decided to go with the traditional anniversary gifts by year, and the first year is paper.
Eric made me a hard cover photo book documenting our fits year of marriage! He added his own comments and captions and captured our first year perfectly! It was so sweet!

I got Eric a canvas from Etsy.com. It is made with individual strips of paper that have words/dates/places that are important to us on it.  then the artist layers the strips of paper to make the canvas. It is really cool! the bottom part has the last portion of our vows: "With all my heart...as long as we both shall live." With the date of our wedding above it.  I love it! (Please excuse the work we are having on the wall in the background...there was a water leak)

After we exchanged gifts we went to eat a fancy dinner at Christpher's. It was amazing! Eric had the New York peppered steak with yam frites and I had the filet with vegetable risotto. (People who know me well: I ordered my steak MEDIUM! Aren't you so proud?! Eric told me I was no longer allowed to order a steak cooked higher than medium. So, I just refused to look at the color of the meat and ate it...and it was fabulous!)

Yayyyy for year #1!!!
I love you Eric. Can't wait for so many more years with you!

Mrs. Wise
