More Snow Fun

Happy Monday, everyone! Eric and I wen to Flagstaff on Saturday with three of his work buddies for a full day of snowboarding! It was so much fun, and I did way better at boarding than I did in Breck for some reason. Maybe it was the new cute green helmet Eric got for me :).  I must say, it is pretty amazing only being 2 hours away from mountains that have legitimate snow and slopes.  We left around 7:00 in the morning, were on the mountain by 9:30, boarded until close, ate dinner in Flagstaff, and were home by 8:00 that night!

Waiting in line!

Here are a couple of videos I took of Eric on the terrain park doing some jumps:

Ok I don't really know why they are so big...I'm new at this video posting thing. I'll work on that :)

In other news...one year ago today, Eric got home from his month long vacation away-rotation in Japan, and we were enjoying our wedding week...I can't believe it has been a year! There were so many emotions all at once...all the emotions that go along with a wedding: excited/nervous/happy/in love etc...but my family was also going through the sadness and stress of losing my grandmother on the very same night that Eric got home. Talk about mixed emotions, and thank goodness for family and great friends.

We are very much looking forward to celebrating our first anniversary together this weekend as one of the higher-up residents who makes the schedules switched it up a little bit so Eric could have the weekend off.  Such a great surprise!

Hope you all are having a good week so far!

Before and After: Living Room Windows

Okay okay, I get so excited when I start projects I sometimes forget to take 'before' pictures.  This was one of those times. So just imagine two big plain windows in our living room.  Since the windows already have blinds and we keep them open almost all the time because they let in so much light, I decided just to make pelmets for a decorative aspect.  Now our windows don't look so bare and I think it added a lot to the living room. I had been watching this fabric for about a month but it was so expensive I couldn't bring myself to buy it full price, BUT over the weekend it went on sale for 50% off for Presidents' Day! I could hardly contain my excitement when I was in the store.

Here they are!

Close up so you can see the lining

Another view.

Next I'll be making some throw pillows for the couches. Pictures to come!

Our Snowboarding Trip!

Sorry it has taken me so long to post about this!  A few weeks ago, Eric and I took our first vacation together (besides our honeymoon of course)! We went to Breckenridge, CO to do a little snowboarding.  It was so fun!

We took a few pretty hard falls.  I am glad I am dorky and wear a helmet because I always seem to fall on my head. I get really nervous when I start to feel like I'm going too fast, then I can't stop thinking about it, and then I just wipe out hard core. It never fails. Eric didn't know what to do when I fell so hard the wind got knocked out of me so bad i couldn't breathe... and since not being able to breathe is one of my worst fears I started crying. Who cries on the mountain?! Me. However, Eric was so patient with me! What a trooper.

He fell pretty hard too a couple of times. One time he did something to his shoulder and couldn't lift his arm above his head for a good week. The third morning we were both so sore and could barely get out of bed!

It was such a great trip. It was the first time since living here we both had several days off to spend together and that alone made it such a great vacation!

Eric heading to the lift

Eric's! We ate here one night and had awesome pizza!

pretty horses!

Story: We went to Keystone for night skiing only to find out it was closed for the night and the next shuttle wasn't scheduled to come for an hour and a half.  So we made a game out of throwing snowballs through the wreath. Whoever scored the highest got to throw a snowball at the other person, and I won :). Twice. :)

Eating snow

cold!

Sorry for the lack of makeup. It would have just gotten washed off  in all of my faceplants in the snow.

We stayed right on the mountain! It was so nice to just be able to walk to the lifts.

Love you!

Gorgeous!

Eric chillin' on the lift

Me and my helmet

Here we go!
The indoor/outdoors pool and hot tubs. Thank goodness we had hot tubs to soothe our muscles!

Next year we are trying to plan another skiing trip, but with a bunch of our friends from home! Can't wait for this!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day, friends!!!  Hope you are having a love-filled day! Eric and I don't really make a big deal out of V-Day.  We just like to do something fun and spend some time together. Plus, our anniversary is only about 3 weeks after V-Day, and we would rather make a big deal out of it.

We Celebrated Saturday night and Sunday morning.  I worked on Saturday and when I came home the house was clean and this is what the table looked like:
Pretty roses for me!

Then We were headed out to dinner to get some sushi in Scottsdale.  We finally found a sushi place comparable to Okura in OKC! It was amazing. This is only part of what we ate:
yum!

A little photo shoot before we left:
:)

Yeah. We're cool because we take self pictures...
...and do "serious" faces like these.

When we got home from dinner, we made a palate on the living room floor and watched "The Town." We do not recommend this movie.
On our palate!

On Sunday, we woke up, went to church, and then decorated cupcakes!
I can't get this to turn the right way for the life of me. I've tried everything.  But you get the point.

My favorite!

I was going to fill this in to make the whole heart red, but Eric really wanted me to make it a happy face! There you go, babe.

Eric is such a good cupcake decorator!

Eric's sprinkle heart!

We hope you have a great love filled Valentine's Day like we did.  Love you all!

Kristina and Josh Visit!

We were so lucky that when Kristina and Josh were here for some of Kristina's work stuff at an eating disorder facility in Wickenburg, we got to enjoy a hike, some lunch, and some gelato together! It was so great! These two are some of the best people around! The hike was super intense...we hiked Camelback Mountain and I don't think any of us knew what we were getting into!

You guys rock!
Eric and me about 20 minutes into the hike...and we were already pretty high up!
The four of us...it was pretty crowded on the mountain, but luckily one of the people offered to take a pic of all four of us!

What a view!

We were higher than the blimp when we got to the top!

Eric and me at the top!

Eric and I feel so lucky...in the first 7 months of us living here we have had so many people come visit us. It has made the transition so much easier.  Thank you so much: Dad for moving us out here, Mom and Sara for visiting for our mini-Thanksgiving, Tiffany for my birthday, Jimmy and Nicole for the Fiesta Bowl and New Years, Bart and Shirley for a fun weekend, and Josh and Kristina for a fun day together! You are all such great friends/family and it means the world to us that you would take the time/money to visit us. We love you!

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

The Wises

Happy Friday and an Announcement

Happy Friday friends! It is a cold one here in Phoenix, with it only being 27 when I woke up. By the way the weathermen here on TV are acting about this "cold" weather, you would think Snowmageddon was going on here. Funny stuff. The citizens of Phoenix were told to "Bundle up if we are going outside, with a high of only 53, its a chilly one!" Oh my.

Announcement time:

I will be starting a new job at the end of this month! I am really excited, but I will be very sad to leave all of my friends I have made at Good Sam. I will be starting work at Mayo Clinic Hospital in the PACU (post-anesthesia care unit) at the end of this month! I think it will be a good change from the ICU setting where I was becoming physically and emotionally worn out.

This also means that sometimes I will see Eric at work.  Weird. Awkward.  We have already made the decision that we probably won't even really talk unless we need to.  Since I will probably be taking care of his/his peers' patients after they get out of surgery, we want to keep it strictly professional, so no one would even have a clue we were married if they didn't already know. I can just picture the first time I have to page him and say, "Hi Dr. Wisenbaugh, this is Megan in the PACU. Your patient so and so is having this problem...." Weird. Awkward.

I will keep you all updated on how the transition goes from ICU to PACU!

Love,
Megan

Before and After

Today I finished re-vamping and old dresser that we were given by my Momma!! It was so fun and only took a total of about 4 hours! I sanded and painted yesterday, then glazed it today (okay sanding was NOT fun and I hate it a little bit, but it's worth it).  I love the finished product! I think it turned out well and it was pretty simple. It is so fun to be able to look at your own projects every day and get the satisfaction of knowing you did it!

Before:

After:

I haven't been able to move it back into the house yet. Somehow I was able to get it downstairs by myself with only minor injuries to my toes, the corners of the dresser, and the walls, but there is no way I'm even going to attempt getting it back up. Thank goodness for husbands!

Speaking of husbands, Eric is back on Consult Service this month.  Please pray for him...the only time in residency so far I thought he might snap was when he was on this rotation a few months ago.  He doesn't get home until around 8:00 and has to get up at 4:00, and when he gets home, he can't relax because he has to study.  Hoping this month goes by fast for him...see you next month, Husband!

Love,
Mrs. Wise
